Brian regards himself fortunate to play instruments manufactured
by some of the top Uilleann pipe makers in the world.
He regularly plays both a 'flat' set and a 'concert pitch set,
and can be heard perform on both sets on his recordings including
Leitrim's Hidden Treasure
and A Piper's Dream.
The
flat set (right) played by Brian was manufactured in late 1997 by
Geoff Wooff, Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare. It is pitched in C (flat
pitch) and manufactured primarily from Ebony and Nickel Silver.

Brian first played a concert pitch (Key of D) set (left) made
by his first teacher and instrument maker Peter
Maguire.
He
can now be heard playing a full set (right -made in 2001) pitched
in D and manufactured by Benedict Koehler and David Quinn, Vermont,
USA.
This set (right) is made primarily from ebony, ziricote and brass.
Both of the sets are very highly regarded for their tonal quality,
intonation, playability and workmanship.
